1. What is your plan in the fall? Attending university? Traveling? Performing?
I’ll be attending Harvard College this fall, where I plan to concentrate in History and Literature! I’m excited to continue dancing at Harvard, possibly exploring new styles like Latin dance or contemporary.
2. What were your favorite parts/ performance features at Shuffles?
Some of my favorite numbers I’ve performed at Shuffles have been Jet Set, Everything Changes, Broadway Barbie, and 42nd Street. I loved how much the Jet Set choreography made me feel like a classic pan-am stewardess and how excited my friends and I were to perform it at each show. Closing this year’s studio showcase with Everything Changes felt like such an outpouring of love within studio, which was especially meaningful as a senior. Broadway Barbie is a good, old-fashioned musical theater number, and I’ve loved having the chance to put my spin on it! 42nd street was my first big tap ensemble number, so I was really proud I had the chance to perform it last year.
3. What is your favorite memory from your time at Shuffles?
My favorite Shuffles memory is spending time backstage with my friends during the May shows. Between costume and shoe changes, we’d share funny anecdotes, help each other with makeup, cheer on our classmates as we watched them from the visor, and take mirror selfies. I love all my Shuffles friends so much!!
4. How has Shuffles impacted you today?
More than just giving me singing, dancing, and acting technique, Shuffles has taught me how to work hard and be consistent. I saw how putting in the time practicing opened doors for me, like becoming an assistant musical theater teacher and even a lead in the show.
I’m so incredibly grateful for all of my teachers for their kindness, dedication, and support. Cyndi, Katie, Kat, Molly, Mark, Shelby, Bill, Vanessa, and Bobby, thank you so much! A huge thank you as well to Gail and Buddy, who make Shuffles Shuffles. I can’t wait to come back and visit next year!
